Jackson gets jealous that Dylan gave Emily a gynecological exam

The Negotiation

Jackson Caine’s jealousy that Dylan Williams examined Emily Wade during a gynecological appointment turns an evening arranged as a date for Evelyn Rose into a test of the boundaries between Jackson and Emily. Learning that Dylan had also sought to date Emily, Jackson fixates on the doctor’s access to her body; Emily answers by insisting that the examination was part of his work and that she had no obligation to report it to Jackson.

The disclosure at Emily’s apartment

Jackson arrives at Emily’s apartment and is surprised when Evelyn Rose answers the door. While Emily gets ready, he asks whether Evelyn knows the man Emily has set her up with. Evelyn says she has never met him, describing him as tall, dark, and handsome, and identifying him as a gynecologist. The conversation changes when Jackson asks whether this is Emily’s doctor. Evelyn explains that Dylan Williams is an associate at the doctor’s office: Emily’s usual doctor was delivering a baby, so Dylan stepped in to see her. Evelyn adds that Dylan had emailed Emily through Match to ask her on a date, and that Emily did not realize who he was until she was already on the examination table.

The revelation joins two circumstances Jackson treats as inseparable: Dylan examined Emily, and Dylan had wanted to date her. Evelyn herself is uncertain how she feels about the overlap, but Jackson’s response becomes physical before it becomes an argument; he swallows hard and feels uneasy. The event’s first turn is therefore not a confrontation with Dylan, who is absent, but Jackson’s reaction to information he has just learned from Evelyn.

Emily enters the living area and immediately challenges the implication that the examination makes Dylan’s interest improper. She says that he is a doctor and that this is his job, adding that she and Jackson have already discussed it. When Jackson asks whether Dylan has seen her naked, Emily rolls her eyes and objects to his joining the scrutiny. She narrows her eyes when Jackson says he is surprised she did not mention it when he picked her up. Her response is direct: she did not know she had to tell him.

Jackson then connects the appointment to their own sexual encounter, pointing out that they had sex in the back of his limousine afterward and suggesting that the examination explains Emily’s desire. Evelyn interrupts in surprise at the combination of a gynecological appointment and sex in the limousine. Emily calls both of them idiots and urges them to leave before Dylan thinks they have stood him up. Her intervention moves the group toward the dinner without resolving Jackson’s complaint; as she departs, she makes clear that she has heard him.

The argument follows them to dinner

The four arrive at Per Se at precisely seven o’clock, where Dylan is already seated. Emily introduces him to Jackson and Evelyn. Dylan offers Jackson his hand; Jackson hesitates before accepting, a small outward sign of the hostility he has already formed toward the man. Jackson orders champagne for the group. As Dylan and Evelyn begin talking, the disputed information remains between Jackson and Emily, now exchanged in a whisper rather than in front of their companions.

Jackson tells Emily that he still cannot believe she did not tell him and calls the omission wrong. Emily, speaking through gritted teeth, asks him to drop the matter. He returns to the fact that Dylan wanted to date her. Emily counters that many men want to date her, just as many women want to date Jackson. Jackson distinguishes this case by insisting that Emily is not sitting across from someone who has seen him naked. The exchange makes his grievance more precise: he is not merely objecting to Dylan’s interest, but to the combination of that interest with the intimate medical examination.

Emily’s answer also exposes an imbalance in Jackson’s standard. She predicts that her own opportunity to sit across from someone who has seen him naked will come, and points out that he has likely slept with half or more of the women in the city. Her retort does not settle the dispute, but it turns Jackson’s comparison back on him: his discomfort about Dylan’s access to her is set against his own extensive sexual history. When Evelyn asks whether they are all right, Emily smiles and says that they are fine, keeping the conflict concealed from the other diners even as the private disagreement continues.

Jealousy, entitlement, and the scene’s limits

The episode builds through repeated challenges rather than a dramatic showdown. Jackson asks whether Dylan is Emily’s doctor, whether he saw her naked, and why she did not tell him; each question narrows his concern from professional identity to bodily access and then to disclosure. Emily repeatedly rejects the premise that the examination required her to account for herself. The contrast is especially sharp because she describes Dylan’s examination as his job, while Jackson treats it as intimate knowledge that changes how he sees the man.

Jackson’s own narration acknowledges the force of his reaction: although he considers himself laid-back, he says the information makes him mad and that he already hates Dylan. Yet the scene offers no confrontation between the two men beyond Jackson’s hesitation at the handshake, and no resolution between Jackson and Emily. It ends with the dinner underway and Emily presenting calm to Evelyn while she and Jackson remain at odds. The episode thus records jealousy as an unresolved pressure within their interaction, not as a settled claim over Emily’s choices.
